Painting Flowers! Coming Full Circle!

Why I Paint Flowers!

I love flowers! Anyone that knows me knows that I love them in my house, my gardens, and in my paintings. I have been painting now for about 12 years and have always painted flowers. I am inspired when I see images of flowers, fresh bouquets, or wild gardens filled with an abundance of beautiful florals. They make me want to paint! I paint all flowers but love my favourites, poppies, and tulips. So why did I stop and why do I feel the need to paint them again.

Why I stopped painting Flowers!

Most of the artists that I know have a desire and a need to explore different ways to communicate to the viewer the things that fill our souls. I experienced this through the years, wanting to try new mediums, new styles of painting using flowers as my muse. I was finding it difficult to really communicate what I wanted to say in my paintings while still maintaining the beauty of my flowers. So I made a decision that 2020 was going to be the year I painted in an abstract format. I stopped painting flowers.

What I Learned About Myself And Painting!

I had been given permission to explore what I really loved and wanted to paint. Nonrepresentational work allowed me to express my emotional connections to my environment in a new and exciting way. The things that I love, the things that influence my work, and what is most important to me. I am able to translate these emotions onto the surface using line, colour, texture, brush strokes, and paper. I was blessed to have my art during 2020 and explored nonrepresentational to my heart’s content but by the time December rolled around I was feeling a need to paint the one thing that I loved. Flowers!

Coming Full Circle!

My intentions for 2021 will be to combine my love of florals and abstraction to create something that is uniquely my own. It will be difficult for me I know because the minute I start working on flowers the shapes and subject are front and center. So I have given myself that challenge and am excited to play and explore to my heart’s content. I will keep you updated as I go. You can watch the progress on my Instagram feed or pop in here to see what I am up to.
